Take-off
Best in the west

Our first visit to Mudgee was memorable for the fine hospitality at Cobb & Co, unlike your reviewer's experience (Weekends Away, March 24).

Cobb & Co's excellent website enticed us to email a reservation for our midweek break. On arrival we learnt that the $130 a night quoted price included not only a splendidly appointed room and full English breakfast, but also a main course for dinner for each of us, valued at about $50. Incidentally, who would need a plunger in their room when the finest espresso in Mudgee is available at the bar, only 50 metres away?

This does not include the most charming aspect of Cobb & Co, host Scott Tracey, who made us feel we were guests in his home and who was a great ambassador for the area. Need to locate the artist who painted the charming vineyard scenes depicted in prints in the bar? Scott tracked down Rachael Flynn of Red Tractor Designs who brought in samples of her work to show us. Places to visit apart from great wineries? Possibly the most stunning art gallery in country NSW, a newly converted Town Hall, is in nearby Gulgong.

Drop everything and head west! You can't afford not to1 .

Cobb & Co court fetches $2.6m
The historic Cobb and Co Court building at the corner of Market and Perry Streets Mudgee has sold for $2.6 million with Property Shop real estate agent Hugh Bateman saying it appeared that the current tenants would be staying put. Mr Bateman said the new owners, who hail from the North Coast, are "very impressed with the current tenant mix".

The anchor tenant is Scott Tracey's The Wineglass Bar and Grill and Cobb and Co Court Boutique Hotel but the building also houses Maxine Julius Hairdresser and Well Heeled.

In particular, Mr Bateman said the new owners were impressed with Mr Tracey's entrepreneurialism in combining a restaurant and boutique hotel.

"So it is good for the business owners and the buyers," he said.

The building was owned by Sydney based Mudgeecourt Holdings and was due to be auctioned next week but was sold ahead of auction for a 7.5 per cent return of income2 .
