Financial problem for sportsground trust

Mudgee Combined Sportsground Trust will reconsider a proposal to double its charges on the Mudgee Race Club and Mudgee Greyhound Club.

The proposal followed a letter from the Department of Lands calling on the Trust to pay more than $1400 before January 1.

The two sporting clubs concerned, in a meeting with the Trust on Sunday, objected to the suggested increases.
The Race Club had been asked to pay $150 a day, as opposed to the old fee of $75, and the coursing club was asked to pay$50,compared with the present $25.

The Trust agreed to reconsider the charges following the clubs’ protests, and in view of their financial positions.
The clubs suggested they might hold more meetings in a bid to give the Trust more revenue.

“All we want is enough money to repay our loan,” Trust secretary (Ald. R. A. Roth) said yesterday.
He said the Trust would not otherwise mind if the clubs had the ground for virtually nothing.

The letter which disturbed the Trust drew its attention to an amount of $714.28 which was shown in the records of the Lands Department as overdue for payment.

“This amount represents the balance of the second instalment of a loan of $10,00 given to the Trust in January, 1964, and fell due for payment on January 1, 1969, “ the letter read.

“The Department takes a serious view of Trusts who fail to honour their obligations regarding loan repayments, and the Trust is now called upon to forward a remittance of $1,728.56 which represents the arrears mentioned above, plus $1,014.28 which falls due on the same loan on January 1, 1970.
“A cheque for $1,738.56 should be forwarded to reach this office by January 1, 1970.”
Ald. Roth said the Trust on receiving the letter, paid - “the interest due on the loans as at January 1, 1970.”
But he said it did not have the money to pay the remainder.

Commenting on Sunday’s meeting with the two clubs, he said: “There was a general and very good discussion and co-operation on all sides by all parties.”

Members of the Trust present at Sunday’s meeting were Messrs. R. L. Rouse (Chairman), C. E. Combes (Deputy Chairman), Ald. Roth (secretary-treasurer), Dr. K. A. Barr, Mr. G. C. Cox, Mr. N. Bagnall and Cr. C. E. Baker.

The Mudgee and District Racing Club was represented by Mr. Gordon Rayner (Vice President), Mr. George Heywood (secretary), Mr. Max Judge and Mr. Geoff Cox (President).

The Greyhound Club was represented by the President, Mr. Bernie Hodge, and Secretary, Mr. Ray Frazer1 .
