Storm damages property: Hotel roof crumpled
Damage was done to property by a wind storm and heavy, driving rain which swept the Mudgee district on Monday last.

At Dunedoo the storm struck about 3.30 pm, preceded by clouds of dust driven by a gale.

On several nearby properties outbuildings were blown over, and limbs torn from trees.

The roof of the Royal Hotel was lifted and crumpled like paper.

One section, about 40ft by 20ft was caught by the wind and conveyed bodily for quite some distance. It was finally deposited on a vacant block adjoining the building.

Working in heavy rain the licensee, Mr Bob Harris, and a team of helpers raced to cover the exposed ceilings with tarpaulins before they could be ruined by the downpour.

They finally succeeded in fixing the covering, but not before considerable harm had been wrought by the water9 .
