Buildings Saved From Blaze
The Gulgong Showground buildings were saved from destruction by fire by prompt action of the Gulgong Town and Bush Fire Brigades on Sunday.
A grass fire carried by a strong south-easterly wind damaged some of the posts and seating around the Show ring but no damage was done to the buildings on the ground.
The fire, started by an unknown cause was reported about 3 p.m. on Sunday and brought prompt response of volunteer fire fighters from the brigades.
The President of the Gulgong Show Society (Mr. Bruce McMaster) expressed the gratitude of all members to those who brought the fire under control before any serious damage was done.
He said committee members had been carrying out mowing operations for the past week to have the ground in readiness for the forthcoming Centenary Year Show on March 13 and 14.
The fire started in some of the uncut grass1
