Centenary Plans
Plans for the Gulgong Centenary celebrations are entering their final stages, following a meeting of the committee last night.
Invitations to the 500 strong Gulgong Ex-Residents Re-Union will be sent out this month.
Centenary dates are April 10 to April 19.
The Centenary Queen candidates and their committees are organising many functions which it is hoped to make the centenary not only a social success but a financial one as well, so that the proposed Community Centre which will house a Pre-school kindergarten, Youth Club, Old Folks Room and Library, will have its foundations laid during the celebrations.
A competition for a deep freeze unit valued at $290 is being run by all Queen committees.
An appeal was made for all sections of the community to support all the various committees charged with the organisation and running of the Centenary1 .

Centenary Plans developing
Fifty members of the Gulgong Centenary Committee attended the last meeting when requests were made to the Shire Council for assistance in staging the Centenary celebrations from April 10 to April 19.

An apology was received from Cr. W. Hensley.
The Gold Diggings committee was promised assistance with the sinking of shafts on the Moonlite Lead where a goldmining scene will be recreated.
A request for sign posting was also made so that places of historic or tourist interest will be clearly signposted.
Such places as the gold leads, the caravan park would be included on the list.
Cr. Khoury promised the committee to give every assistance and co-operation o that the celebration will be as successful as possible.
A letter had been sent from the shire as well as from the committee inviting the Prince of Wales and his sister, Princess Anne, to visit Gulgong during the Centenary.
A list of guests closely associated with the history of the town and district was presented to the meeting and invitations will be sent to these people.
Business people were asked to give consideration to decorating their business houses and homes, while all people, young and old, were urged to make plans for 1870’s fashion in dress to be worn during the Centenary week.
The committee hopes to have everyone “live again” the times of the goldrush days.
It was decided to obtain coloured lighting for the streets and to make enquiries regarding street decorations.
Advice was received that the Dubbo and Lithgow Bands would attend and take part in the procession.
A group of 20 people from Sydney wearing period costume would stay in Gulgong for the week and take part in re-enactments.
It was suggested that they could be of great assistance at the Gold Diggings on Moonlite Lead.
A display was being arranged at the Commonwealth Bank for a week of the Centenary promoting interest in Gulgong and there would be a number of displays in Gulgong during the week.
A request was made by members for everyone to publicise the Centenary as much as possible and to assist in this, a programme would be printed with highlights of the celebrations2
