FAREWELL TO SCHOOL TEACHER.
Departmental changes often put things very much out of gear. Mr. A. H. Shinfield was recently promoted from Cullen Bullen to Mullamuddy Public School. When his many friends were informed they were exceedingly sorry, because he had proved himself a gentleman of sterling worth, not only in his duties in training the young, but as a sportsman and good citizen. It was decided to recognise his services. Lists were drawn out, and with such willing workers as Messrs. W. Edwards, R. Crowie, G. Williams, and many others, a very fine amount was collected. As Mr. Shinfield left on short notice it was decided to ask him to visit Cullen Bullen on a date to be named by him. On Saturday evening the local hall was very artistically decorated, the entertainment taking the form of a conversazione, interspersed with musical items and dancing. About 10.30 p.m. Mr. William Edwards, director of ceremonies, said it gave him great pleasure to hand Mr. Shinfield a present from the townspeople of a very fine wallet, well filled with notes. Mr. G. Williams, on behalf of the tennis club, also presented Mr. Shinfield with a very nice trophy. Mr. R. Crowie ably spoke of their guest's many fine qualities, and presented him with a trophy from the footballers. Mr. Bert Staines, on behalf of the cricket club, presented a trophy, and also spoke highly of Mr. Shinfield's able assistance in all sporting matters. Messrs. Thompson (headmaster of the local school), Mr. McDonald (Ben Bullen Public School), and Mr. Cyril Hart (a prominent tennis player), also spoke of the high esteem in which Mr. Shinfield was held by all. Mr. Shinfield sincerely thanked all those who contributed to his many valuable presents and assured them he would treasure them. What was done by him was willingly done, and was no more or less than anyone ought to do. It always gave him great pleasure to help in any matter within his power. His stay in Cullen Bullen had been a pleasant one and that he was very sorry to leave4 .
