Fifty-four boys and 41 girls sat for the examination, which included eight candidates from the Mudgee Convent, five from Eurunderee, two from Budgee, one from Pyangle, and one from Munna. The remainder (78) were pupils of the Mudgee District School. Of the total 14 boys and six girls were bursary candidates. Next week the intermediate and leaving certificate examinations will start, beginning on Monday November 23, and concluding on Friday, December 4. There will be 38 candidates for the intermediate examinations, 35 of whom are pupils of Mudgee District School and three of the Mudgee Convent High School. There is only one candidate for the leaving certificate - a pupil of the Mudgee District School. The following committee is assisting in the carrying out of the examinations: - Mr. R. J. Cohen (secretary), Revs. Father Flanagan. W. J. Dunstan, T. J. Curtis. G. Laverty, and Harris Walker, Messrs. G. D. Young. W. S. Walker, W. J. McDiarmid, V. D. Cox, and Mesdames W. J. Dunstan, W. S. Walker, W. B. Wickham, and Miss McDiarmid.
AT HAVILAH.
Examinations of candidates for qualifying and bursary certificates were conducted at the Havilah School on Monday last, when about half-a-dozen candidates presented themselves. The exams were under the supervision of a local committee. The roll at this little school has considerably increased during the past two years, and, under the watchful eye of Mr. G. A. 0. Smart, the teacher, the scholars have shown marked progress. Mr. Smart was particularly anxious that the candidates should be well coached for this exam, and has devoted much of his own time on Saturdays in giving them extra lessons for their betterment, which both the scholars and parents appreciated very much. On Saturday last Mr. J. Oakley, on behalf of himself and several other parents, visited the school and spoke to the scholars in eulogistic terms of Mr. Smart. He assured them that it would not be their teacher's fault if they were not successful in the examinations, as he had taken special pains in preparing them4
