Names of Successful District Candidates.
We print today a list of the successful candidates who sat for the qualifying certificate examination in this and adjoining districts. All the candidates took the same examination papers as the city boys and girls. Under the Bursaries Endowment Act., the bursaries allotted by the board are divided in the ratio of school population. This works out, so that one-third of the Bursaries are given to candidates from Sydney and suburbs, and two-thirds of the bursaries go to the country districts. These bursaries and scholarships are tenable at the country high schools or the district schools, but the names of the successful bursars and scholars will not be available until next week.

Fire at Budgee
SCHOOL DESTROYED.
As the result of a fire which occurred at Budgee on Thursday, November 16, at 5.30 p.m., the public school building and contents were totally destroyed.
The cause of the outbreak is unknown, but the day being cold a fire was kept in the school, and as usual, the remains were taken out in the evening, previous to being quenched.
The teacher, Mr. Foley, thinks that a small coal or spark may have fallen on the floor while this was being done. There was a strong westerly wind, accompanied by ? lightning at the time, and as the school floor, which, on account of being much worn and splintered, contained many small openings through which the wind came, and about two feet from the ground on the western side, the coal or spark, if it had fallen on the floor, may have been sufficiently fanned for it to catch alight upon the floor.
The strange part is the short space of time which elapsed between when Mr. Foley left the ground (4.30 p.m.) and that at which the fire was seen, which was within an hour.
Nothing was saved, and much sympathy is expressed for the teacher, who during 27 years, had put together a valuable collection of teaching aids, including an extensive library, much of which can not be replaced, and all of which is now almost indispensable in connection with the present system of teaching.
The loss to the locality has been minimised by the kindness of Mr. A. Bentley, who has allowed his late residence to be used as a school till a building is provided3
