BOTOBOLAR SCHOOL.
Department of Public Instruction, Sydney, 27th June, 1902.
Sir, - With reference to your recent personal representations in regard to the material condition of the Public School premises at Botobolar, I have the honor to state that the Minister of instruction has decided to have the necessary repairs to these buildings proceeded with. The specifications are now being revised, with a view of calling for tenders at an early date. - I have, &c., J. C. Maynard, Under Secretary3 .

4 September 1902
Mems from our Member.
SYDNEY, Wednesday.
The tender of Mr. S. Thurgood has been accepted for improvements and repairs to Botobolar School and teacher's premises4 .

1903

26 February 1903
Botobolar Provisional School.
The Under-Secretary for Education has informed Mr. J. C. L. Fitzpatrick M.L.A., that the matter of the removal of the Botobolar provincial school to another site will receive attention5 .

20 April 1903
Tender Accepted.
The tender of Mr. J. J. Lynch, for the erection of a washhouse at the Botobolar School residence, has been accepted by the department6 .

1904

4 July 1904
School Change,
Mr. Owen Ryan, who for the past few years has been in charge of the Upper Botobolar school, has been promoted to Tucklan, and will at once take up his new duties. It is not known who will succeed him at Upper Botobolar7 .

1905

5 February 1905
Mr P G Ryan, Lower Botobolar, member Public Service Association8 .

29 May 1905
Botobolar School.
It is stated on good authority that the Education Department proposes to close up Botobolar public school, of which Mr. P. G. Ryan has been teacher in charge for over 15 years, There is no country to be selected near the school, and, therefore there is not likely to be any new settlement, which would, of course, mean new children. The attendance now is very small, much smaller in fact than the attendance at most of the provisional and even half-time schools9 .

8 June 1905
The Botobolar School.
The fate of the Botobolar school has not yet been decided, or if it has been decided it has not been officially notified. It is, however, rumored on good authority that the school is to be permanently closed, and that Upper Botobolar and Bayly are to be made half-time schools, and placed in charge of a teacher, who will reside at the residence attached to the Botobolar school. The enrolment and average attendance at Upper Botobolar and Bayly are not known to us, but we are under a very strong impression that both these schools should be maintained. To make three full-time schools into two "half-timers" is certainly not the sort of education reform we want in this district10 .

22 June 1905
Half Time Schools.
The contemplated closing of the Botobolar public school owing to the falling off in the attendance has given rise to rumor that Botobolar and Bayly schools were to be reduced to half time schools, and would be under a teacher, who would live in the residence at Botobolar. On Saturday, a deputation from Upper Botobolar waited on Mr. Reay, Inspector of Schools, to urge that the proposal to reduce the schools be not carried out. The deputation was agreeably satisfied to learn from Mr. Reay that the reduction of the status of the schools has never been considered let alone proposed11 .

7 August 1905
School Changes.
On Saturday morning Mr. P. G. Ryan, who for nearly 20 years has been teacher in charge of Botobolar school, received notice that he had been transferred to the staff of the Bathurst Superior Public School. Mr. Ryan's transfer was not unexpected as it was known that the question of continuing the school full time was under consideration. During the time Mr. Ryan has been at Botobolar, he has made hosts of friends, who do not intend to let his departure from their midst take place, without making him a presentation as an evidence of the esteem in which he is held. It is not yet known whether the Botobolar school will be reduced to half-time, and it is also not known whether a teacher is to be appointed to take charge of the Bayly school, which has been closed for some weeks12 .

26 October 1905
Mr. P. G. Ryan.
Mr. P. G. Ryan, formerly teacher of the Botobolar Public School, near Mudgee, and for the past three months assistant at the Bathurst Superior Public School, has been appointed to Lewis Ponds. Prior to leaving Mudgee Mr. and Mrs. Ryan and family were tendered a public banquet, and various presentations were made to them, including an address, artistically illuminated by the Sisters of Mercy. The teachers also made a presentation of a beautiful clock. Lewis Ponds' new teacher is the eldest son of Mrs. Ryan, a well known resident of Orange, and brother of Mr. H. Ryan, of the railway telegraph office. - Orange Advocate13 .

1910

31 March 1910
Mr Barrett to Millsville
Mr. J F Barrett, for some years teacher at the Lower Botobolar School, has been transferred to the charge of the Millsville School, Mullamuddy. Mr. Rarrett is held in high esteem and regard by the parents and pupils at Lower Botobolar and adjacent districts, who much regretted his departure from their midst14 .

1912

3 October 1912
LOOKING UP OLD FRIENDS.
Mr. P. G. Ryan, who for 19 years was teacher at Botobolar school, and for the last five years has been teacher at Lewis Ponds, near Orange, came holidaying to Mudgee on Saturday. He spent several days at Botobolar, and was heartily welcomed by many old friends. Mr. Ryan says that although the Orange district has a great name, he prefers Mudgee, which, he thinks, cannot be beaten by any portion of the State. Our old friend has had a pleasant and enjoyable holiday, and leaves for home to-morrow (Friday)16 .

1913

21 April 1913
LEFT BOTOBOLAR.
Mr. W. Rhodes, for some time, teacher of Botobolar School, is now in charge of the Frome's Creek School. There is, at present, no teacher at Botobolar. It is to be hoped that the Department will not be long before it sends along a teacher17 .
