To Renewal of Licence
GOOLMA HOTEL
ACCORDING to the statement made by Licensing Inspector First-Class Sergeant Ormsby at the Wellington Licensing Court Application when an application was made for a renewal of the licence of the Goolma HoteI, the premises are much below the standard required by the Licensing' Act.
The: application for a renewal of the licence -was made by the man who only recently procured a lease of the premises.
Serg't.Ormsby, told the Licensing Magistrate, that the grounds on which the objection was made was that the premises were dilapidated and entirely unfit for human habitation. After his first inspection Tooheys Ltd. had agreed to make certain additions and improvements, and these had not been carried out.
Sergt.Ormsby continuing; stated he first Inspected the premises on November 24th last, and at that time Tooheys would not admit they were the owners. Witness gave orders that the roofing, which was badly leaking everywhere should be repaired, but after waiting six weeks nothing had been done. On May 30th he again Inspected the Goolma Hotel and found that certain work had not been carried out in a satisfactory manner, and the building was not waterproof. The premises were very old, and had: been erected over 70 years ago, and, some of the timbers were rotten. There was no dining room, and the people had to eat in the kitchen. In his opinion, the premises should have been condemned 30 years ago. He added there was not a decent bedroom in the premises. The man had only been licensee for about a month. In referring to the roofing; the sergeant stated, the iron was old, and was leaking all over the place. He had written to Tooheys, pointing out the improvements had not been carried out, and that he would lodge an objection to the granting of a renewal of the licence.
The licensee agreed to all that had been stated by Sergt. Ormsby
At this stage, the case was put back until 2 pm when the application was held over until the next court to ascertain what action Tooheys intended to take in the matter.
After the case had been stood over the licensee alleged that he took over the lease only a month ago under the understanding that Tooheys were to carry out the improvements mentioned by the sergeant. He stated a good hotel building at Goolma would be a public benefit. At present, owing to there being no accommodation, people had to travel on to Mudgee2

Objection Raised to Renewal of Licence Of the Goolma Hotel
THE renewal of the licence of the Goolma Hotel at Goolma was objected to by the Licensing Inspector Sgt. Ormsby, of Wellington, at a Licensing Court held at Wellington last week.
Objection was raised owing to the state of and position of some of the lavatories. On an undertaking by Messrs. Toohey's. Ltd.'s solicitors, that matters needing attention would be rectified at once, the Magistrate adjourned the application generally.
Mr. Giekie (Licensing Magistrate) said that If the system did not operate correctly, the Licensing Inspector would bring on the hearing at any time4

GOOLMA HOTEL
When the application for a transfer of the licence of the Goolma Hotel from A. B. Azar to John Clifford Hipwell was being dealt with at last sitting of the Wellington Licensing Court, the latter stated that he had previously conducted four other hotels, but had no interest in any other hotel licence at the present time. He was not a licensed bookmaker or a licensed bookmaker's clerk. There were no objections and Mr. Cobley, S.M., granted the application5
