“Forget Razors” say Beard Mob
The Gulgong Beard Mob at their meeting last Friday made a call on all men of Gulgong and district to display their manly pride, and enter into the spirit of the forthcoming Centenary celebrations.
The Beard Mob ask that every man in the town, particularly businessmen, show their support for the celebrations by growing beards, or or other facial growth as they wish.
The aim of the club is to have 100 beards in the town to mark its 100 years.
The town has already “lost face” according to a report in the Sydney Press which stated that in this age when the beard is in fashion Gulgong could only muster 30 beards.
The club has yet the Australia holiday weekend as a date on which all new entries could start urging every man worth his salt to throw away his razor.
Entry fee is $2.50 and sections are, full beard, best growth, longest beard, colourful beard, moustache, mutton chops, sideboards.
The beard judging will take place on Saturday, April 18 at the Gold Diggings town on Moonlite Lead.
Mr. Bill Holden said he would endeavour to have beard entries from Lithgow. Other towns will be invited to enter the competition.
The Beard Mob also decided to enter a team of walkers on Sunday, January 251 .
