DISTRICT BULLOCKS.
A draft of probably the best lot of bullocks that have been grazing on the Bylong flats and at Growee for some time was sold through Messrs. McLachlan and Dunn on account of Mr. John Davis and Dewey Bros, to Mr. Anderson, better known as "The Sausage King," of Sydney, last week. They were beef from head to foot, which is an indication of the rich pasturage abounding in the Bylong territory1

The Big Drought
OLD HAND'S RECOLLECTION.
Mr. Gus Dewey, of "Growee," was in Rylstone during the week, and in commenting on the dry spell, predicted better days to follow.
Harking back to the 1887 drought he said that during the winter of that year, in the Rylstone district there were more severe frosts than there were last winter. The Growee Creek at one period was frozen for a week, and a dry spell of 18 months broke in April, 1888, with 20 inches of rain. The following winter was one of the wettest on record2

GROWEE (RYLSTONE) SOLD
To Mr. P. S. Macfarlane
THERE has not been such a large interest taken in the auction sale of a property for many years as was evidenced on Wednesday, 30th inst., when the well known "Growee" Estate, owned by the late H. and A. Dewey was submitted to auction at Crossing and Cox's offices, Market street, Mudgee, by that firm, in conjunction with Winchcombe, Carson, Ltd., Sydney.
There was a large attendance of buyers and included in them were fully half a dozen who were strangers to the district. Competition was keen and bidding free, and the sale was over in a few minutes. It is pleasing to report that a local man in the person of Mr. P. S. Macfarlane of "Budden," was the purchaser, at £3 15s per acre, and he is to be congratulated on acquiring such a choice bit of country as "Growee" undoubtedly is4

Mr G H Purvis recently bought Growee, a station property at Rylstone, and finds it has a special point of interest for him.
It was there that the great racehorse Heroic was buried.
The fact is recorded on a circular concrete slab which simply says: "Heroic, 1939"6
