Parents and Citizens' Association - On Wednesday evening 15th February, a Parents and Citizens' Association was formed at Lue, but owing to a number of residents not having information, the attendance was small. The meeting was, therefore, adjourned till the following Saturday, when about 19 ladies and gentlemen were present. Before the meeting began, Mr. Burgess, our new school teacher, in a few well chosen words, laid the objects of the Association before the people. He laid stress on the benefit to be derived by a closer union between the residents of a district, and how much more a teacher could do when he had the parents to back him up. He pointed out how the Lue school could be improved by getting in some of the outlying districts. He had already from 61 to 63 pupils (everyone saw at once, that was too many for one teacher to tackle, as some of the scholars were going for the high exams.) The meeting being formed, Mr. John Thompson was elected president, Mr. W. L. Harris hon. treasurer. Mr. S. Keogh vice-president, and Mr. J. Talon hon. secretary. It was agreed to have a ball on 19th March to raise funds for the Association, one of the principal objects being the improvement of the interior of the school, by way of diagrams, graphs, etc. Mr. C. Bennett kindly gave the use of his hall free of charge. The refreshments are to be provided by the ladies, helped by the bachelors of Lue. The music will be rendered by Miss Bennett if she is well enough; if not, some other competent person will have charge of it. The Department is to be approached re running a school cart to bring in some eight or nine children from a distance. Other matters were discussed. Altogether the meeting was a great success. The next meeting will take place on Saturday, 11th March, to fix everything for the ball, which, we hope, will be a great success. Tickets for the ball are 3s double and 2s single1
