Mudgee winery placed into liquidation
Almost 275,000 litres of red wine will go under the hammer today from a Mudgee winery that has gone into liquidation.
The Andrew Harris Winery which was established a decade ago was placed in the hands of liquidators Nicholls and Co on March the 10th.
The Auctioneer, Scott Burns, says the white wine had already been sold to a buyer in Griffith, however a further 400 barrels of red wine ranging from the 2001 to 2007 vintage will be sold to pay creditors.
He says there has been strong interest from both local and interstate buyers.
"Andrew Harris is quite a strong time so most of the wineries in fact we hope all of the wineries have received a brochure from us and we have received a lot of communication from them and various wine buyers," he said.
"We've had a couple of guys from Melbourne that are coming up and I've had a couple of calls from South Australia, whether they come up or not I don't know certainly word has got that far."
The boutique winery was considered to be one of the most successful in Mudgee, winning 14 trophies and almost 500 medals.
Mr Burns says that reputation should ensure the success of today's auction.
"There is a big glut of red wine.
"There is no doubt that a lot of wineries have too much.
"But we think the quality of this wine will stand for itself hopefully in the sale," he said1 .

Mudgee winery in the red
One of the best known winemakers in the Mudgee region has gone into liquidation, and 274,000 litres of his red wine will go under the hammer in an auction this afternoon.
Andrew Harris Wines was established in 1991and produced its first vintage in 1994.
The management of Andrew Harris Wines declined to comment on the reasons for the winery being wound up.
But Scott Burns, from Burns and Co Auctions, who'll handle the sale today, acknowledges the general oversupply in Australian wines.
"There is a big glut of red wine about," he said.
"There is no doubt that a lot of wineries just have too much, and there's too much about, but we think that the quality of this wine will stand for itself hopefully, in the sale2 ."
