How the Cudgegong Shire is Being Covered
THE menace of bush fires is being coped with in the country around Mudgee in heroic fashion. Well indeed are countrymen responding to the call to organise themselves into brigades to fight the fire demon, and already the shire council has registered 128 names in five areas, and negotiations are proceeding in respect of five others. These brigades, which are officially recognised and work under regulations will cover the entire shire.
The particulars are as follow: -
CULLENBONE
This brigade operates in the Cullenbone, Piambong and Erudgere sectors of the shire and extends into the Wyaldra Shire. A large bulk of its territory is in that shire, but the brigade was formed by, and registered in, Cudgegong. It was formed late in 1939 and up to date has 30 members, but that is only the initial list. The captain is Mr. James Pirie, and the deputy-captains (Messrs. R. F. Wilson, R. J. Johnstone, J. F.
