New venture for Kandos
More than 200 people took the opportunity to call in to Kandos' newest business, The Art Of Town, after it was officially opened in Angus Street last Saturday.

The new gift and art shop, the brainchild of Jane and Scott Beckinsale, has an array of gift and art ware for sale and will also host art exhibitions.

"Many locals came and had a look as well as a sprinkling of visitors - we had some from both Tasmania and Queensland," Ms Bekinsale said.

"This is the first specialist gift and art shop in Kandos and we have been planning the venture since we came here 18 months ago.

"We saw a need and when we were able to get these premises in the main street decided to go ahead."

A feature of the opening day, and still on display until this Sunday, is an exhibition of a ceramics and art workshop for children held on Thursday last week.

"We intend to run regular workshops for children, the next one will be in January," Ms Bekinsale said.

"The workshops give children the chance to enjoy different forms of art and then have their work on display.

"However their work is not for sale and after the exhibition closes on Sunday the children take them home."

The Art Of Town is also currently hosting exhibitions from two Sydney artists and one from Clandulla.

"These artists have exhibited widely, but it is the first time they have exhibited their work locally," Ms Bekinsale said.

Local artist Debbie Stone from Clandulla has artwork on display and for sale and is among three local artists, representing five different crafts at The Art Of Town.

"More local artists have indicated they would like to start displaying their work for sale in addition to those already on display," she said.

"Our artists work in their own studios and look to us to retail their work.

The Art Of Town is one of several new businesses opening up in the main street of Kandos.

Recent additions to the businesses in the town include a bicycle shop, a coffee shop and a computer shop while a millinery shop is set to open soon and a new office suite is nearly ready for occupation after renovations1 .
