Opening of McCormack's New Empire Hall.
A Pyramul Function.
Friday, December 5, was the occasion of a grand plain and fancy dress ball at Pyramid, in celebration of the opening of Mr. T. McCormack's fine new and spacious hall.
Shortly after sunset the people began to assemble, from all quarters to take part in the grand fete, and by 8 o'clock the hall was crowded to overflowing, eagerly waiting for the formal ceremony of opening, and naming the new building, which duty was performed in a neat and fitting speech by Mr. W. E. Croxon.
The hall, which was beautifully decorated with flags, bunting, and greenery, presented a most brilliant spectacle, with its bevy of fair ladies, all of whom were beautifully dressed.
Dancing was at once commenced, and kept going to the strains of bright and pleasing music supplied by Mr. Adams (violin),and the Misses Conran and Croxon (piano).
When 12 o'clock came all were in vited to supper, which was partaken of in Mr. McCormack's large dining room. The tables, which were fairly burdened with innumer able good things, and tastefully de corated with flowers, looked lovely, and was the work of the genial hostess (Mrs. McCormack). After the needs of the inner man had been satisfied, all stood up and lustily sang - 'For they are jolly good fellows.'
Dancing was again resumed, and kept going till daylight, when all hands began to think of the election.
