Mudgee Freezing Works

1918

FREEZING WORKS CLOSE.
MUDGEE, Tuesday.
The Mudgee Freezing Works Company, which controls the Mudgee Freezing Works, Capertee Freezing Works, and Gulgong Freezing Works, closed down on Saturday as a result of instructions wired from Melbourne from Mr. D. J. O'Brien, managing director, who, with other freezing works representatives, held a conference with Senator Russell.
It is believed that the Government refused to enter into a contract to purchase rabbits on behalf of the Imperial Government, as all rabbits purchased last year have not yet been shipped to England, owing to the scarcity of shipping1 .

FREEZING WORKS REOPEN.
A START THIS WEEK.
Mudgee Freezing Works, after being shut down for a considerable time, will be reopened this week. The works have been thoroughly renovated and all machines tuned up so as to obtain the highest efficiency, while several fuel saving devices have been installed. They have an up-to-date workshop, fitted up with a new lathe and other machines, to handle all repair work.
In view of the works becoming busy, Mr. F. E. Elder, chief engineer for the firm's New South Wales works, and who has carried on the office for the past 12 months, in addition to the works side, will be released from the office business by Mr. D. Donnellan, of their Melbourne works, who is to arrive in Mudgee next week.
It is hoped that the quantity of rabbits coming in will warrant the employment of a full complement of hands, upwards of 30, full time. Thus one more of Mudgee's big industries will be under full steam.
The Gulgong works will also re-open this week.
The following prices will be paid to commence: - Large rabbits, 6d a pair; small rabbits, 2½d a pair; large rabbits not suitable for export, 2½d a pair. Small rabbits under 1½lbs. are clueless. These prices are for delivery at Mudgee and Gulgong works2 .
