Mount Vincent Mead

1985

17 November 1985
Jane Nevell is one of eight mead makers in Australia. Ten years ago she established Mount Vincent, 3 kilometres from the Mudgee post office.

Mead is a mixture of honey and water fermented with yeast and Jane makes dry, medium, sweet, spiced or liqueur mead. She also makes wines with grapes she buys and recently has planted "a few hectares" of her own. Her honey nectar, a combination of honey, cider, vinegar and herbs, can be mixed with water, gin or Bacardi and used for cooking or for sore throats, Jane says1 .
