CUDGEGONG BOROUGH COUNCIL.
This borough, which surrounds the Mudgee municipality, was incorporated in 1863, and has about 400 miles of streets. The population is about 2500, and there are some 400 voters. The Council-chambers - a fine two-story building, with offices in front - contains a large hall upstairs, where concerts and balls are held. Recently the Council erected cattle saleyards - a long-felt want - which bring in a decent revenue to the Council. Mudgee has also cattle saleyards, but the Cudgegong Council collect the rates from both, having got an Act passed through Parliament to do so. Mr. C. D. Meares, solicitor, is legal adviser to the borough.
The Mayor (a subscriber to the Freeman for 37 years) is Mr. P. J. Rheinberger, Willow Vale. Aldermen: Messrs. William Wilton, McDonald's Creek; John Newman, Wattle House, Hargraves road; M. R. Lowe, Tingha Menah; John Lee, Ashburn; William Bishop, Redbank; George Stewart, Binnawee; Rueben Mills, Lawson's Creek; William Grant, Melrose. The Council Clerk is Mr. Joseph Cox1 .
