Big Race Plan for Lake
The largest ever racing programme at Burrendong Dam will be held this month.
It will be staged by the Lake Burrendong Power Boat Club on January 24 and 25.
Club Commodore, Mr. J. Oliver said “The meeting carries a total of $100 prizemoney, $700 of which will be for inboard and outboard handicaps and scratch events including a special race for -B Tunnel Hull Craft.
“Included in the programme will be a ‘Herald’ Reliability Trial in two sections one for inboards and one for outboards; this will carry a total of $300 prizemoney.
The club has received a number of entries from Queensland, Victoria and the coast of N.S.W.
There are a number of local boats also entered in the weekend’s events.
Mr. Oliver said the regatta would cater for all types of craft.
He said it would be the largest power boat event held in inland N.S.W. and it would be bigger than the National inboard championships held on Burrendong Dam in 1968.
“One of the feature events will be a family time trial in two classes with $150 prizemoney for each class.
“Other events include outboard and inboard handicap and scratch races for all engine capacities.
“One of the highlights of the weekend will be the scratch race for O-B Tunnel Hull Craft. These are the fastest production made boats in Australia, and of the ten that are in Australia, it is expected that eight of these will contest the event, providing the most spectacular racing event seen at the Dam yet,” Mr.Oliver said.
The Burrendong Park Trust is spending $1,000 on the Club’s site at the Dam, Eagle Beagle, in an effort to further improve the facilities of the Dam.
The weekend’s events are being partly sponsored by the “Sun-Herald” and show that with good attendances this could be the first of a number of large concerns sponsoring activities at this most popular inland waterway. All are invited to the Club’s social on Saturday, 24th1 .
