Rylstone Cemetery

Rylstone Cemetery
Headstones bear witness that burials took place in this cemetery as early as the 1850s, but it was not until the 19th May, 1868, that an area of 5 acres was officially dedicated for the purpose. Portions allotted to the various denominations were:

  • 1 acre 2 roods each for the Church of England and the Roman Catholic CHurch
  • 1 acre for the Wesleyans and the Presbyterians
  • 3 roods for other denominations
  • 1 rood for members of the Jewish faith

A further 2 acres east of the original cemetery was added on 11th March, 18811 .
