Opening Ball at Hargraves Hall an Outstanding Success.
The opening ball in the Hargraves Hall was an outstanding success, nett proceeds amounting to £65/2/- and the large crowd in attendance being treated to a delightful evening.
The building had been beautifully decorated with multi coloured streamers, paper follies, balloons, and flowers.
About 9.30 p.m. the official opening was carried out by Capt. W. F. Dunn, M.L.A., who ended his speech by saying: 'Hargraves has a hall to be proud of, because it is the best country hall in this electorate.'
Another highlight of the night, was the delightful supper provided. The tables and supper room had been decorated with masses of real flowers, and of course, there was an abundance of luscious food.
Numerous competitions and novelties were run off, and caused quite a little excitement. The winners of the competitions were: Mr. Harold Williams and Miss Lorna Campbell (lucky jazz caps); Mr. and Mrs. Pitt, and Mr. D. Lawson and partner (spot dances).
The fat sheep was won by Mr. R. Hough, the wool rug by Mr. J. Harding (Mudgee), the £2 order by Mrs. L. Neil (Hargraves), and the knitted scarf by Mr. Jennings (Hill End)1 .
